General dentistry in Utrecht

Make an appointment for a check-up with the dentist, optionally combined with the prevention assistant, and have your teeth examined preventively. Among other things, the dentist will remove plaque and tartar, check your teeth for cavities (caries) and, where necessary, assess the health of your mouth with the help of X-rays. Based on this, a personalised treatment plan is drawn up, and you will have every opportunity to discuss your wishes and requirements with the dentist or assistant.

What is general dentistry?

General dentistry covers all treatments that form the basis of a healthy set of teeth. This includes the routine check-up and dental cleaning, but also filling cavities. The findings of the oral examination form the basis for any follow-up treatments needed to achieve a healthy and aesthetically pleasing smile.

Your first visit

During your first visit, the intake, you meet the dentist, dental hygienist and prevention assistant, an oral examination is carried out and X-rays may be taken. During this examination we discuss the condition of your teeth and draw up a personalised treatment plan, taking into account your wishes and financial situation.

Routine check-up

Depending on the condition of your teeth, we determine the interval for your dental check-ups. Usually the routine check-up takes place every six months, although it may also be once a year. During the check-up we examine your teeth carefully and take X-rays if needed. We also update your personalised treatment plan, taking your wishes into account.

Your gums

An important part of the check-up visit is examining your gums. We look at the colour and shape of the gums and, where necessary, give you instructions to improve your oral hygiene and oral health. An early diagnosis and timely treatment are essential to relieve complaints and prevent serious problems.

Do you suffer from red or bleeding gums, for example? Please contact us to make an appointment. The dentist will assess your teeth and draw up a treatment plan.

Composite fillings

Composite is a tooth-coloured filling material made from glass particles and synthetic resin. We use this filling material to repair cavities in teeth and molars. Composite filling material can bond to enamel and dentine, so that as much of your own tooth tissue as possible is preserved. In addition, teeth and molars are strengthened by the bond between your own tooth tissue and the filling material. Composite is ideally suited to aesthetic treatments, such as widening teeth to fill gaps or lengthening teeth in the case of dental wear.

Follow-up treatments

Based on your first visit, a personalised treatment plan is drawn up. This describes step by step which treatments need to be carried out to achieve a healthy and aesthetically desirable result. These include general as well as cosmetic and restorative treatments, such as:

Costs and reimbursement

If the cost of a treatment is higher than €250, you will receive a cost estimate. This allows you to easily check with your health insurer whether, and to what extent, you are entitled to reimbursement. Please see our pricing page for more information.

Anxious patients

Patients who put off visiting the dentist due to fear or nerves are put at ease by our dentists. Our dentists have many years of experience treating anxious patients and children: we explain the treatment step by step, take more time for the patient and pause the treatment whenever this is wanted. Frequently asked questions – General dentistry

How often do I need a dental check-up?

Within our practice we generally advise coming in for a check-up at least twice a year. This way we can keep a close eye on your oral health and spot any problems early. Together we will look at what is best for your situation.

Is general dentistry also suitable for children?

Yes, within our practice we treat both adults and children. We feel it is important that children feel at ease, and we build up a dental visit calmly and in a familiar way.

What happens during a standard dental check-up?

During a check-up our dentist looks at the health of your teeth, molars and gums. Among other things, we check for cavities, inflammation and wear. If we notice anything, we discuss it with you straight away.

Does a check-up or treatment hurt?

A check-up is usually painless. If treatment is needed, we always discuss this with you beforehand. We explain what we are going to do and make sure you feel at ease.

What if I am anxious about the dentist?

If you put off visiting the dentist due to fear or nerves, you are in good hands at our practice. Our dentists have many years of experience treating anxious patients and children. We take our time for you, calmly explain each step of the treatment and adjust the pace to what feels comfortable for you. If you would like to pause during the treatment, that is always possible.

Can I come in with complaints without a pre-scheduled appointment?

If you have complaints, you can always contact our practice on 030 760 1267, provided you are a registered patient. Together we assess how urgent your situation is and look at when you can best be helped. Outside opening hours, you can contact the emergency clinic at the Mondzorg Centrum Europaplein 352 on 0900 8602.

What happens if a cavity is not treated in time?

If a cavity is not treated, it can grow larger and penetrate deeper into the tooth. We regularly see that this can lead to pain or more extensive treatments. Regular check-ups usually allow us to prevent this.

When am I referred to a specialist within the practice?

If our dentist judges that a treatment requires specialist care, we discuss this with you. Within our practice various specialists work together, so that you can be referred internally if necessary.

How can I best look after my teeth between check-ups?

  • Brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes with fluoride toothpaste.
  • Use dental floss, interdental brushes or dental sticks to clean hard-to-reach areas of your teeth.
